Kipling), später auch verkörpert u. a. von Mae West, Jean Harlow, im deutschen Stummfilm u. a. von Asta Nielsen, Marlene Dietrich.

[englisch, væmp; wörtlich »improvisierte Begleitung«], ständig wiederholter Akkord oder mehrtaktige Harmoniefolge als Begleitfigur vor einem Solo- oder Ensembleeinsatz. Vier- oder achttaktige Vamps dienen in auskomponierten Stücken, beliebig oft wiederholt, als Improvisationseinschub, mitunter auch als Schluss.
